After a lot of rain, it turned out to be a perfect day for our field trip to Minnehaha Falls. The falls were spectacular, the creek was flowing, and the sun shined on us the whole time. The first grade scientists were hard at work observing and sketching as we followed the journey of the falls to the Mississippi. We even stopped at a cave carved in sandstone and had a chance to look inside. The day ended with a picnic lunch and playing at the park. We returned to school just in time, as the rain started pouring down again! Here is a slideshow of our trip:
You may want to return to this park sometime as a family. It is spectacular in many seasons and there are always new things to observe and discover. The first graders are particularly curious about what it looks like in the winter!
